Logbook Auditing, Pro-Rate & IFTA

Logbook Auditing, Pro-Rate & IFTA

Logbook Auditing
National and provincial commercial transport legislations require all commercial carriers to provide Hours of Service training* to their employees. In addition to that training, each carrier is required to monitor the completed log sheets of their drivers and notify them of any errors. We refer to this process as log auditing.

Log Auditing is a service that we provide to many of our clients. We have developed a simplified system that provides efficiency and helps each driver ensure the accuracy of their logs. While completing the log auditing for our clients that are federally regulated carriers, we can retrieve and calculate the relevant information required to complete IFTA and Pro-rate returns, saving time and stress at filing time.

For those that wish to complete the task of log auditing in-house we offer a training course for the person who will be auditing the logs. This ensures that they are competent and equipped with a proper system to ensure accuracy and conformity.

*Performance Business Consulting offers Hours of Service training, please see complete information under our ‘Training’ section

International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA)
A commercial vehicle weighing 11,797kg or more, or has 3 axles, regardless of weight, that crosses a provincial or federal boundary can qualify to be part of the IFTA program. This program delegates the proportionate amounts of fuel tax paid by each commercial vehicle to the appropriate province or state based on the kilometers that unit travels in that jurisdiction each year. Carriers that are part of the IFTA program are required to track the data of each commercial vehicle in their fleet that they have registered in the program and file quarterly reports based on that data.

Prorate Services
A commercial vehicle weighing 11,794kg or more, or has 3 axles, regardless of weight, that crosses a provincial or federal boundary must be authorized to operate in each jurisdiction it travels in. This can be done either by registering the vehicle in multiple jurisdictions or by registering the vehicle with Prorate Services. This service delegates the proportionate amount of the registration fees of each commercial vehicle to the appropriate province or state based on the kilometers that unit travels in that jurisdiction each year. Carriers that are members of Prorate Services are required to track the data of each commercial vehicle in their fleet that they have registered in the program and file quarterly reports based on that data.

These reports must be completed accurately and filed by a specific deadline. Performance Business Consulting can take care of these tasks for you, ensuring the quarterly reports are filed on time and correctly. For those clients whom we are completing log auditing, these tasks are seamlessly completed with the log auditing to ensure all reports are accurate and reflect exactly what is reported elsewhere.
